Greening
When the Monolith Festival was conceptualized we had a number of visions. In addition to presenting the finest new music to please your ears, we wanted to create examples of sustainability that could translate into everyday lives. The majority of Monolith attendees are young, active trendsetters therefore it is of the utmost importance that we build an educated community that is focused on the preservation of our planet. In 2007 we were ecstatic to discover that over 80% of Monolith attendees participate in recycling at home. With that said, it’s obvious that the issue of global warming is important to you as well.
In 2007, we teamed up with San Francisco-based Esurance.com to implement a number of standards, procedure and programs geared towards making the Monolith Festival a “Zero Impact” event. While it is important to keep our impact at “zero”, it’s even more important to create and event that results in a positive impact. This year we have teamed up with several key partners, including Red Rocks Amphitheater, to accomplish this goal. This web space is dedicated to inform our attendees about our environmental actions and programs. During the event, there are a number of processes happening behind the scenes. Even if you can’t see them in action, it is important to us that you know. We use this space to get you up to speed on all our sustainable activities happening in and around the 2008 Monolith Festival (whether they are visible or not.)
Below you will find a brief overview or our sustainable practices. Click on any of the highlighted links for an in-depth overview, educational links, and the reasons why we do them.
Carbon Offsets Supporting Wind and Methane Energy
2008 has partnered with Native Energy to offset the energy consumption of the event, as well as the carbon emissions generated from attendee and band travel. View the in-depth overview of Monolith’s “carbon neutrality”, information on Renewable Energy Credits (REC’s) and what the experts are saying about Carbon Offsetting.
Monolith Festival 2nd Annual Reforestation Project

On-Site Recycling, Composting, Trashbags and Energy Conservation
This year we have tremendously increased our recycling efforts, due in large part to a new recycling program implemented by Red Rocks Amphitheatre. This year Monolith and Red Rocks will roll out a single-stream recycling and composting plan that includes glass, plastic, cardboard, food, paper towels, utensils and more. Click here for a full overview.
Sustainable Printing Practices
The majority of the printing for the 2008 Monolith Festival is provided by our partner, Jakprints. In addition to providing state of the art full-color offset printing, they have been long-time advocate for sustainable printing practices. Jakprints is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council; is an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Jakprints is also certified by The Rainforest Alliance ; who works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.
Jakprints is committed to using eco-friendly alternatives. With the exception of the VIP Gold Pass, 90% of Monolith Festival promotional materials are printed using soy & vegetable based inks and paper stocks made with a minimum of 30% recycled content

Green Ticket Packages – Carpool to Monolith
We have recently launched a special ticket package for Monolith attendees that provides a substantial savings for carpooling to the event. Tickets are sold in blocks of 4 or 8 tickets. Attendees must arrive to the venue in the same vehicle. Carpooling has a tremendous impact on reducing global warming. The less vehicles we have driving to and from the venue, the less our final impact will be. Get more info on the GREEN TICKET/Carpool package
